Financial literacy lesson with PWC tutors Kobe and Frank

Our Financial literacy tutors this year are Kobe and Frank. They both work for PWC and are auditors.

The lesson we learnt today focussed on making money, aiming to make more money and considering the risks. This was through a game where each team member had to throw a bean bag on an amount of money. The closest amount was $5 and the amount further away was $20. A lot of teams aimed for $20 but it was hard to achieve. The team who won the most money aimed all their bean bags on $5. Kobe explained that sometimes we aim for the biggest amount but the risk of achieving that goal is higher.

After the bean bag game, we learn about NEEDS and WANTS. Some of our students identified needs which are actually wants. This is a great way to reflect on what our needs are and what our wants are. Kobe explained needs are essentials which we need for survival. He also explained that wants are our personal consumption. For example, Playstation 5 is not a need. We don't really need it but we would want it. It is a want and not a need.

Our next activity was spending our income we earned from the bean bag activity. Each group had the money they earned from the activity to spend. There was a sheet of activities with costs and we had to decide what we were going to spend our money on and how much we would save. It was a great discussion to have about what we really needed and what we could do without.

After morning tea, we learnt about Lender and Borrower. A lender is someone who lends something to another person. A borrower is the person asking for something. Frank taught us about being a responsible borrower and being wise as a lender. We have to choose who we lend our belongings to. Do we trust them to return our belongings? How valuable is the item to us? We finished off our lesson with role plays about borrowing and lending.

  2. Malo Lelei,

Todays PWC session was such a phenomenal experience. I learnt ways to spend money wisely, who is trustworthy or not and especially how to get money. This experience with Frank & Kobe was highly fun because they did super cool activities with us and they even taught us all we needed to know about money. When I go home, I'm definitely going to teach some small facts to my siblings about this great session with Frank & Rob :D Thank you Frank & Rob (PWC) for coming over :))

  3. Today, Kobe & Frank taught us how to spend our money wisely and spending it on the stuff we need and not the stuff we want. We had fun learning about spending money wisely and even playing a quick game I also like the game we played because Kobe put down three papers and one of the paper had a 5 on it and the other two had a 10 and a 20 and we got 4 ben bags and we had to see which one we wanted to get. The thing I learnt from this game is to never go for the one that's far away and instead go for the one that's closer because you can take a huge risk and one mistake you lose everything and I really had fun doing this and thanks PWC for sending us Kobe and Frank.

  8. Today, me and my class learnt about Financial literacy with our PWC tutors Kobe and frank. During the lesson I had learnt that money doesn't come out of no where and that you should spend it on things that you need first before things that you want. In both of the lessons they teached, they covered the meaning of debit and credit cards, how to spend your money wisely etc. Whilst we were playing our activities the classroom was split into 6 teams. One of the activities were where you had to act out borrowing things and giving them back while the other one was where you got to chose needs and wants.

  9. Kia Ora Mrs Tofa.

I really enjoyed this experience about how to use and spend our money and be wise with our choices. I learned about lenders and borrowers, lenders are people that you lend money or their pencil and and you give it back. But a borrower is a person that takes your money and is expected to pay you back.
Thank you Kobe and Franklin for this awesome experience.

This was just a small summary

We also played games to earn our paper money. Our team won $16 dollars. We spent 10 dollars and saved $6.

  12. Today Kobe and Frank from PWC company came to room 7 at Glenbrae School. Kobe and Frank teach us how to save, loan, borrower and how to spend your money properly, we were in 6 groups and Kobe and Frank took turns to talk to us. What I learn is that use your money properly and use it smartly because there are people that try to steel or rob from you also, lending money to your families, friends or stranger you always have to tell them if they want money from you they got to pay you back with the same amount that you gave to them. I learn that Giving something to someone that you own or borrowing something that someone gave to you to use you have to use leadership and look after.

  14. Today Kobe and Frank came to visit us from PWC (price waterhouse coopers) to teach us about financial literacy. The first activity we did was to throw bean bags at numbered paper. Each group got four tries because there were six groups with four people in each groups. We got 5 dollars on on paper and 10 dollars on the second paper and finally the furthest away paper with 20 fake dollars. We made 10 dollars. The next activity was was that there is a triangle on the board and the top is wants and the bottom is needs. We were the first group named the Money Makers and we said needs a wants and every time you got one right your team got a one dollar note. We ended up with 13 dollars. Next our activity was to get a paper and marker to write what you had to buy and what you could buy. Our income was 14 dollars and our expenses were 10 dollars and we saved four dollars. Now we did plays between our group with the topic of good borrowers and good lenders and bad borrowers. Finally we had a Q+A session to finish up the lesson.
I really enjoyed the time that Frank and Kobe came and taught us.
