Matariki bill- Destiny and Alyanna

Below is some information from Destiny and Alyanna about the recent Matariki bill that was passed in Parliament.

Do you think Matariki should have become a public holiday?

Updates

 Kia ora team!

Term 2 has been hectic. Between sickness, sports and other school activities, we have been able to do some amazing learning.

We have just started our new DMIC maths topic which is statistics. We have been learning about the different types of graphs and how to analyse and sort out data sets.

For literacy, we have been focusing on persuasive texts. We read and dissected news articles that were rather persuasive and wrote responses.

We have working on writing with topics such as "should school uniforms be compulsory".

What we have discovered is that our class is very opinionated and ready to debate and persuade people at any time!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Matariki here at school. We did some learning around Matariki and most of us attended our annual school 'Matatriki ball'

We hope everyone has had a wonderful term 2 so far. I know all of here in Rm 7 are excited to have some holidays!

Welcome to Term 2 from Room 7!!!

Hello and welcome back to school for Term 2. Room 7 would like to officially introduce ourselves to our blog visitors far and wide.

There are 27 year 7/8 students here in Room 7 and our teacher is Miss Woodhall. Miss Woodhall is a first-year teacher and some of us had her as a student teacher last year (2021).

We all have a variety of interests including sports, maths, outside activities and different learning areas.

Here at Glenbrae School, we have 157 students which makes us a smaller school but we still have lots of fun and enjoyment at school.

This Term, we have gained a lovely new principal named Mr Perreau. We are grateful and thrilled to have him join us at GBS.

We look forward to meeting our Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu friends and others through the wonderful blogging platform!

Week 8 is almost over! We have done some amazing work this week while the weather has been horrible.

Below is a sample of work from Tiara from one of our lessons

WALA: what qualities a good leader has and how to be good leaders.

After researching two New Zealand learders, we created venn diagram to display how they show leadership.

Hope you all had a happy and safe week.

Last week during our inquiry time we were talking about our topic (Turangawaewae- Our place)

We spoke about how we all have different food and drink that is special and unique to us, our whanau and our culture. Some of us shared our family favourite dishes like spaghetti bolognese.

Below is the work of AJ and 'Uluaki. They worked together to make this amazing Google slide animated presentation! Take a look and leave them some feedback.

CyberSmart- Monsters

Wow! What a time we have been having in Room 7 so far! We have been lucky to have Mr Goodwin coming in on a Wednesday morning to do some CyberSmart activities and challenges with us.

This week, we made our very own monsters using Google draw! We wrote character profiles to go alongside our monsters. Here is the monster that Arman made!

Here is his blogpost Arman- Monsters

Have a wonderful start to week 8 everyone!

Over the past few weeks, we have been lucky to cool off in our lovely school pool!

As a class, we have learnt many new skills such as survival backstroke and proper freestyle swimming technique.

Everyone has enjoyed the opportunity to cool down and learn some new skills and safety information regarding our actions in and around the water.

We have also been completing team challenges/games based on water skills such as underwater swimming and team building. This has been a great way to maximise our time in the water.

We will miss our pool time over the cooler months, but we are excited to enjoy it again soon!

2022

 Kia ora!

Welcome to the Room 7 blog for 2022. As Mrs Tofa is on maternity leave, I (Miss Woodhall) will be taking over for 2022.

I am a first year teacher and Room 7 is my first ever class! I have been at Glenbrae School before on my placements so I am excited to be back and have the chance to learn alongside the students.

So far in Room 7 we have been settling back into school routine and doing some amazing learning which has been shared on the individual blogs.

We have been lucky to be swimming everyday and it is a great way to practice our water safety skills and learn new ones. Its is also a great way to cool down and I must say, I am so jealous that they get to cool down in this hot and humid weather!

We have started our new topic inquiry called Turangawaewae (our place). We have started off by having a korero about our homes and how they are unique to each of us. How we interact, and feel in our homes can often be different to how we act at school so it is important we are able to ensure we understand uniqueness and respect.

Turangawaewae will be a huge focus for us moving forward and I am so excited to see how we progress as a class.

Make sure you stay updated with our individual blogs as well as our class blog. We will be posting regularly about our learning and creations.
