Here is another word problem for us to solve together. Let the comments begin.

Its 7km from Tim's house to where his Grandma lives. Its uphill on the way there so he can only cycle at 14kph but he can do 21kph on the way back.
Tim leaves his house at 6pm.

How long can he stop at his Grandma's house if he wants to be back home for his favourite TV programme at 7pm?

  2. 27 minutes
    I hour =14
    1/2 of 14 of = 7
so it took half an hour to get to his Grandma's house
    with another 30 minutes left.

It takes him 3 minutes to go down if he can do 21 kph to go back from his Grandma's house so he only had 27 minutes at his Grandma's house.
    30 - 3 = 27 minutes

  5. It takes him 35 minutes to go up and down the hill, so he has 25 minutes to spend at his Grandmother's house.

  9. 10 minutes

It takes Tim 1 hour to travel 14km to his Grandmas house, but he only needs to travel 7. So half of 14 is 7, and half of 60 is 30. It takes Tim 30 minutes to travel to his grandmas house, which means that there is another 30 minutes left.

On the way back, it takes Tim 1 hour to travel 21km, but he still needs to travel 7km. 21 divided by 7 equals 3, and 30 divided by 3 equals 10.

Tim stays at his grandmas house for 10 minutes
