Being Cool in Room 7
Talofa, Kia ora, Malo e lelei and welcome to all our viewers. This year we have a great group of excited and energetic learners in Room 7. So far we have a total of 26 students on our roll. How awesome to have a big class. We have started this year with a cool start. Our focus for this year is to be cool. Quite fitting because its summer so we are also working on being Sunsmart and going into the shade to be cool. We also want to be cool with our attitudes towards each other and how we approach situations.
There are so many up coming events happening and we are excited about them. Next week we will have our Water fun day. Our annual event of having fun and competing in our house groups. We have also been playing some volleyball and we are getting very confident with our skills. We also like the team work that has been happening during our games.
We have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and have found so many interesting facts about the treaty. Did you know one of William Hobson's signatures is believed to be forged? This is because he had a stroke which made travelling a challenge for him and in one of the copies of the treaty his signature is William Hobson all other documents has his signature as W Hobson. Interesting isn't it?
We look forward to the weekend to view the celebrations of Waitangi at the Treaty Grounds and Te Tii Marae where we are going for our camp, another exciting event we are looking forward to.
Watch this space for more exciting happenings in Cool Room 7.

Glenbrae Heroes
This year Room 7 decided to create a narrative as our film festival movie. We had much discussion about what this should be about, but our script writers Luisa, Maara and Linda Kiki created a story that tied two ideas together; Superheroes and our school values.
In our movie, Respect Boy (Levi R) and Energiser Girl (Fusi) support Glenbrae students through a number of testing scenarios. They illustrate values such as encouragement, respect and perseverance. At the end of the film, we discover that anyone can become a superhero by displaying these values. This causes us to wonder whether Fusi and Levi are real superheroes after all...
Thank you to all of Room 7 who played a part in the movie. Special thanks to Luisa, Maara, Linda Kiki, Chris, Sam, Moses, Dora, Hemi, Danny-Joe, Taki, Fusi and Levi R who put in several hours of work (some of which were spent outside in the wind) and re-shot some scenes multiple times.

Medtech Trip!
Today Room 7 traveled to the city to experience the Medtech exhibition in silo 6. This is an interactive exhibition that focuses on bio-engineering - focusing on how medicine and technology combine.
We were split up into groups of 6, we rotated around the silos to learn about different areas of the body and different areas of bio-engineering. Check out some of our favorite activities!

In a different area, the volunteers were showcasing an app that let you see inside the body (as long as you were wearing a particular t-shirt). There was also an opportunity to perform a virtual operation to remove an appendix in this room!
In another room the students were able to make slime using different chemicals. They also got to try to make a container that could hold kinetic sand - which wasn't as easy as it seemed!
However, our favourite room was one where we got to use our bodies in different ways. We used our balance to play a computer game, measured the height of a jump while wearing weights and created art while cycling!

In this exhibition, we had to make music with different parts of our body. In this picture, Dora is holding a sensor that makes music as she moves her arm.

Healthy Shared Lunch
Today we had a whole school shared lunch in the hall. Each class made a different healthy dish and we made enough for each child (and some whanau) to try a piece of each.
In Room 7, we turned our classroom into a kitchen in the morning and created around 100 sandwiches, which we cut up so that everyone could try at least half a sandwich each. These were a great hit with the students and completely ran out by the end of the shared lunch!
Well done to all of the students who put in a great effort to ensure that the sandwiches were finished in time.
